FAQs

What makes Breeder's Choice different?

Breeder's Choice stands out because it is a compostable and biodegradable litter made in Australia from 99% recycled paper, offering a natural alternative to traditional clay or silica crystal litters. Its highly absorbent pellets lock in moisture for natural odour control, while being virtually dust-free and exceptionally gentle on sensitive paws.

How does Breeder’s Choice cat litter control strong odours?

Our 99% recycled paper pellets are exceptionally absorbent, acting like tiny sponges that quickly draw in and lock away moisture. By trapping the liquid fast, it naturally neutralises strong ammonia odours without needing to rely on artificial perfumes, masking agents, or harsh chemicals to keep your home smelling fresh.

How long does a bag of Breeder’s Choice typically last?

The longevity of Breeder’s Choice depends on the number of cats and the bag size. A 30L bag typically lasts one cat 4–6 weeks, assuming proper maintenance.

Is Breeder’s Choice cat litter flushable or safe for composting?

Breeder's Choice is 100% biodegradable and makes excellent surface mulch or compost for your garden once all solid waste is removed. However, to protect local waterways, marine life, and your home's plumbing systems, we do not recommend flushing any type of cat litter down the toilet.

Is paper cat litter better than crystal?

Many pet parents find paper cat litter to be a superior choice over crystal. While crystal litter can have sharp edges and track silica dust around the house, Breeder's Choice paper pellets are naturally soft, virtually low dust, and 100% biodegradable. This makes it a more comfortable option for your cat and a much more sustainable choice for the environment.

Is it safe for kittens and sensitive paws?

Absolutely! In fact, paper litter is often highly recommended by vets for kittens and cats recovering from surgery. The soft, natural paper pellets are incredibly gentle on sensitive paws and are virtually dust-free, preventing respiratory irritation. Plus, unlike traditional clumping clay, it won't cause harmful intestinal blockages if a curious kitten accidentally ingests a few pieces.

What sizes are available?

You can typically find our recycled paper litter in 10L, 15L, 24L, and bulk 30L bags.

How do I transition my cat to Breeder’s Choice?

Cats are creatures of habit, so a gradual transition is always the best approach for picky felines! Start by filling the litter tray with 2/3 of your old litter and 1/3 Breeder's Choice. Over the next 7 to 10 days, slowly increase the amount of Breeder's Choice while decreasing the old brand until your cat is completely comfortable using 100% paper pellets.
